Humility: There will always be someone who can out do you in every respect of life-this is important to remember. Live your life to the fullest, and disregard what those around you might be doing, or what they might think of how you live. Life is not a competition against others, it's a challenge against yourself. Obviously, competitors cannot be tolerated. A roll of cash to the face, or the unloading of a bottle of DP are appropriate and winning manoeuvres. All that having been said, don't ever even THINK about going toe-to-toe with the King (and that means the beloved author, not Elvis).
