Boris is Bored: Las Vegas

Boris sends us a brief dispatch from Sin City where he finds that "What Happens in Vegas between overweight Midwesterners stays in Vegas":

Restaurants

Joel Robuchon is fantastic. Beautifully designed dining room and secluded enough that one doesn't realize you're in the middle of the massive MGM Grand. Among the favorites was a foie gras napolean with layers of grilled eel. The 16 course dinner is a bit much but totally worth it with much more exciting offerings than the 8 course.

Il Mulino: Same food and massive portions as its New York outpost but it has no character which is a key component to the mother restaurant.

Mix: Nicely designed although they could use some more windows. The food was tasty, specifically the Kobe duo consisting of one part Kobe Shabu Shabu which was quite interesting.

Nightlife

Tryst: The club used to be called La Bete but someone actually La Mort at the club so they decided on a revamp. The club is mildly cool-looking as it looks onto a giant waterfall but the crowd is complete dog shit and the nonsense at the door is unacceptable. The only way to roll here (and we don't recommend you do) is to hire a VIP host to deal with the staff and getting in. Las Vegas nightlife is completely uninspired and requires either large quantities of alcohol to be fun or some mild form of peyote.

Playing the slot machines in the smoking lounge @ Las Vegas Airport--fantastic.
